    Unique inaugural Chair opportunity

    Lead new strategic plan & governance structure

    Visionary founders & dedicated membership committee

    Founded in 2021 by Garry and Kate Putland in memory of Dr. Sophie Putland, Sophie’s Legacy is a small charitable entity dedicated to supporting veterinary staff and addressing the mental health crisis within the veterinary profession.  Through the passionate efforts of its founders and voluntary committee members, the organisation has made significant strides in creating a platform that focuses on education, advocacy, and collaboration with key stakeholders.

    Driven by a vision to Save the People who Save our Animals, the organisation now seeks to appoint an inaugural Chair.  This pivotal role will work closely with the founders to provide strategic leadership and governance, guiding the charity in fulfilling its vision and ensuring effective oversight of its activities.  Key responsibilities:

    • facilitate a review of organisational structure to position Sophie’s Legacy for an impactful and exciting future;
    • facilitate the establishment of a relevant skills-based board and regular board meetings, and ensure effective oversight of collaborative board management to monitor and evaluate organisational performance;
    • provide leadership and governance oversight, ensuring compliance with the charity’s vision, values, strategic objectives and regulatory obligations;
    • lead the creation of a new Strategic Plan, ensuring financial sustainability and effective resource management;
    • represent Sophie’s Legacy with key stakeholders including government bodies, industry organisations, and the veterinary community.

    Applications are encouraged from experienced and qualified Directors with proven leadership and board experience and a strong understanding of governance and board dynamics.  Experience in strategic planning and organisational development and a well-developed understanding of fundraising and resource development strategies will also be important.

    The successful candidate will be committed to fostering a culture of compassion and support, and will possess a visionary, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset capable of inspiring and engaging diverse audiences.  A time commitment of circa 8-10 hours per week is anticipated for this non-remunerated appointment (reasonable expenses will be covered).

    Explore this unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact steering the next exciting phase of Sophie’s Legacy, making a tangible difference in the lives of veterinarians.
